Snappers Submit to Squeeze, Suffer 5-2 Setback
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Snappers fell to the Winter Garden Squeeze, 5-2, on Friday night.
The Snappers used six pitchers in the loss, relying on a refreshed bullpen that featured three debuts.
Drew Kunz, Collin Lock and Dylan Kulper all appeared in a Snappers uniform for the first time, combining for four innings of work.
Kunz pitched in a competitive game for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in November, marking a remarkable recovery timeline.
The other Orlando debut came from catcher Johnny Davila, who had a strong night at the plate with two hits. The future South Alabama Jaguar was one of the top players in junior college baseball this spring and looks to contribute to the Snappers' playoff push.
Winter Garden struck early, scoring in each of the first three innings and building a 5-0 lead in the seven-inning contest. Orlando's offense never found its rhythm and managed just two runs.
With the victory, the Squeeze moved past Orlando in the standings, improving to 12-13 and climbing into second place. The Snappers dropped to 11-12-1 and remained in third place. With the regular season winding down, every Florida Collegiate Summer League game carries significant postseason implications.
Orlando will have the Fourth of July off before returning to action Sunday against the DeLand Suns. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Conrad Park.
