Dawgs Snap Seven Game Skid
WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Winter Park Diamond Dawgs leaned on a dominant outing from Cameron Hanes and a clutch performance at the plate by Hutson Guinn to knock off the Leesburg Lightning, 3-1, on Saturday night at Alfond Stadium.
Hanes set the tone from the first pitch, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit to earn his first win of the season. The right-hander struck out multiple batters, threw 48 of his 78 pitches for strikes and consistently worked out of trouble despite hitting four batters. Gage Allen handled the final four innings, allowing one run while earning the save.
Winter Park wasted little time giving Hanes support. In the bottom of the first, Roberto Odor reached base and later scored when Guinn lined an RBI single through the left side. Moments later, Garrett Frost crossed the plate on a passed ball to give the Diamond Dawgs a 2-0 advantage.
Guinn finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBIs, accounting for two of Winter Park's three runs. Odor scored twice and added a hit, while Canyon Marcewicz and Osmin Melendez also contributed hits in the Diamond Dawgs' six-hit effort.
Defensively, Winter Park played a clean game without committing an error and turned a key double play behind Hanes and Allen. Leesburg managed just four hits and was held scoreless until the seventh inning.
The Diamond Dawgs have Sunday off before opening a series against the Winter Garden Squeeze on Monday at Alfond Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
