Rogozinski's Three Doubles Power Suns Past Squeeze
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — The Winter Garden Squeeze (13-15) fell 9-5 to the DeLand Suns (13-14) in Game 2 of the series Friday at Horizon Park. DeLand's offense was fueled by catcher Boomer Rogozinski, who finished with three doubles and five RBIs.
Rogozinski wasted little time making an impact. With the bases loaded in the first inning, he ripped a three-run double to left-center field to give the Suns a 3-0 lead.
The Squeeze answered in the bottom half of the inning. Fabian Antonsanti drew a leadoff walk and stole his 18th base of the season before Alex Galan lined an RBI double off the left-center field wall to cut the deficit to 3-1.
DeLand extended its advantage in the third when Rogozinski struck again. With runners on second and third, he laced another double down the left-field line to increase the Suns' lead to 5-1.
Rogozinski later recorded his third double of the night before stealing third base. He scored moments later on a throwing error by Squeeze catcher Edwin Melendez, stretching the lead to 6-1.
Winter Garden responded in the bottom of the fourth. Brody Bellomo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run, and Galan followed with an RBI single to trim the deficit to 6-3.
The Suns answered immediately in the fifth when Shane Thomas lined a two-run single into right-center field, pushing the lead to 7-3.
The Squeeze mounted another rally in the sixth. Ayden Elixson reached on an error to open the inning before Carlos Fuenmayor reached on another DeLand error that allowed Elixson to score. Later in the inning, Colson May drove in Cael Reish on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 7-5.
Reish paced the Squeeze offensively with two doubles.
Thomas delivered the final blow in the eighth, ripping a two-run double with the bases loaded to extend DeLand's lead to 9-5.
The two teams conclude the series Saturday at Conrad Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
