Diamond Dawgs Crush Squeeze Behind 15-Hit Attack
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — The Winter Garden Squeeze and Winter Park Diamond Dawgs combined for 25 hits Tuesday night, but two big innings from Winter Park proved to be the difference in a high-scoring affair.
The Squeeze (2-7) dropped their fourth consecutive game, falling 15-7 to the Diamond Dawgs (7-3) at Horizon High School. With the victory, Winter Park matched its win total from the entire 2025 season, when it finished 7-28.
A six-run first inning set the tone for the Diamond Dawgs. Former Squeeze player Mason Mojica (Undecided) returned to face his former club and collected three hits on the night. Mojica ripped an RBI double off the wall to give Winter Park a 3-0 lead before Daniel Irizarry (John Melvin Christian) cleared the bases with a three-run double later in the frame.
Alex Galan (Lake Sumter State) provided an offensive spark for Winter Garden. He drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to make it 6-1, then launched his first home run of the season in the third inning, a three-run shot that trimmed the deficit to 6-4.
The Diamond Dawgs answered immediately in the top of the fourth. Jacob Pearl (Undecided), who finished with three hits and two RBIs, delivered an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-4. A walk and a wild pitch helped add two more runs before Mojica capped the rally with a sacrifice fly, giving Winter Park a 10-4 cushion.
Irizarry struck again in the fifth, tripling home a run to make it 12-4. The Squeeze responded in the bottom half of the inning when Ayden Elixson (Flagler) lifted a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 12-5.
Winter Park appeared poised to end the game early after Pearl doubled home a run in the seventh inning to make it 13-5. However, the Squeeze plated two runs in the bottom half of the frame to extend the contest.
The Diamond Dawgs added two insurance runs in the ninth inning to secure the 15-7 victory.
Winter Garden will travel to Sanford on Thursday to begin a three-game series against the River Rats (1-8). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
