FLORIDA LEAGUE ANNOUNCES 2011 AWARD WINNERS

Most Valuable Player

 Ted Blackman (Coastal Carolina)

Blackman played an integral role in the Diamond Dawgs' success this summer.  He led the team to a 22-14-1 mark and their second straight championship game appearance.

Blackman set a name for himself amongst the Florida League breaking five single-season records.  Last season he set the record for batting average and on base percentage and topped that this summer averaging a .425 clip in 33 games played and an OBP of .582.  He finished the season with 38 runs, 45 hits, 10 doubles, three home runs, and a league-leading 28 stolen bases.

Cy Young

 Ben Brown (Tampa)

Amongst a talented pitching staff on the Diamond Dawgs roster, Ben Brown stood out as the Dawgs' top starter.  He appeared in eight games, starting six, not including an appearance in the All-Star Game and two appearances in the playoffs.  He posted a team-best 1.35 ERA, which tied for the second best in the Florida League.

Brown logged in 40 innings and fanned a team-best 32 batters.  He issued out just three walks on the season and gave up a total of six earned runs.  The 5-11 righty concluded the 2011 summer with a 4-1 record and tied for the second most wins in the League.
