WINTER PARK, Fla. (July 14, 2011) – The Winter Haven Loggerheads suffered a 7-2 loss to the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs Thursday night at Alfond Stadium at Harper-Shepherd Field.
 
With the loss, Winter Haven drops to 9-16 on the season, while Winter Park improves to 16-6. 
 
Five Loggerheads recorded a hit against the Dawgs, while Sam Halpern (Barry) and Nick Geary (Georgetown) each plated a run. Sean O’Brien (Florida State) tallied an RBI.
 
Winter Haven scored their first run in the third frame and the second in the sixth. As a team, the Loggerheads notched five hits, while committing two defensive miscues. 
 
The Diamond Dawgs did a majority of their damage in the middle of the game, scoring four runs between the fourth and sixth innings. They drove in another three in the bottom of the eighth as well.
 
Loggerheads starting pitcher Bryan Poland (Benedictine College) was tagged with the loss tossing seven complete innings. Poland had three punch outs, but did not issue a walk. The right-handed hurler was credited with giving up five runs, three unearned.
 
Winter Park starter Ben Brown (Tampa) earned the win in five innings of work. Despite only recording one strikeout, Brown gave up one run on two hits. Ted Blackman (Coastal Carolina) and Dustin Demuth (Indiana) had multiple hits off the Loggerheads pitching staff, while Demuth scored three runs of his own.
 

The Loggerheads will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they host the DeLand Suns for two at Chain of Lakes Field. First pitch is set for 5:00.
