WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (June 25, 2011) – The Winter Haven Loggerheads captured a 7-5 victory over the Orlando Freedom at Chain of Lakes Park on Saturday night.

The Loggerheads (7-8) were led by Justin Burgess (Montevallo) with two hits, while Sam Halpern (Barry) and Nick Geary (Georgetown) notched the Loggerheads other two hits.  Burgess also scored three runs, drove in two, and stole a bag.

Winter Haven used a four-run fourth to lift them past the Freedom for the third time this summer, while Peter Miller (Florida State) pitched through six innings to take his second win of the season.  Miller fanned a game-high nine batters, giving up one earned run.

The Loggerheads scored two runs in the opening frame as Andrew Sterling (Dickinson College) and Burgess gave Winter Haven the 2-1 lead.

Orlando (3-13) managed to knot up the score at 2-all in the top of third, but the Loggerheads took back a run in the home half of the inning to take the 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Loggerheads put up a four spot to lead by four runs over the Freedom, who defeated the Loggerheads earlier in the week.  Chris Pagliarulo (Boston College), Kevin Clements (Trinity), Burgess, and Geary all crossed the plate with all runs credited to Ronald Schreurs (Daytona State College).  Schreurs was credited with the loss tossing 3 2/3 innings, while striking out seven and walking nine. 

The Freedom rallied late in the game with a three-run seventh, but would be all that they scored.  The Freedom scored five runs on five hits, while committing four errors.  The Loggerheads, picking up their seventh victory of the season, scored seven runs on four hits, while also committing four errors.

Winter Haven will hit the road as they travel to Orlando, Fla. to face the Freedom on Sunday, June 26 at Orel Hershiser Field.  First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
