WINTER PARK, Fla. (June 22, 2011) - The last time the Orlando Freedom faced the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs, double-figures were reached in three different statistical categories in a lengthy ball game. Tuesday night’s contest provided a 180-degree turn from the previous contest.

The Freedom fell 4-2 to the Dawgs in a contest that lasted just one hour and 49 minutes, which featured just one walk, one error and one wild pitch.

The Diamond Dawgs struck first in the contest in the bottom of the third inning. After a walk and a single, Spencer Haynes (UCF) punched a one-out single to right field to score the first run of the game. One out later, BJ Zimmerman (St. College of Florida) followed with a double to the right field wall to push the score to 3-0.

Determined to make things interesting, the Freedom struck in the eighth inning. After Kevin Lehane (Jacksonville) knocked a one-out single to right, Matt Mattone (Palm Beach St.) crushed a no-doubt home run over the left field wall cutting the deficit to one.

Two-out lightning continued the inning as Zack Houck (Jacksonville) notched a single and Anthony Caronia (Tampa) trickled a double down the right field line to put the two on second and third.

Unfortunately, Orlando was unable to bring the two home as Chris Waltermire (Polk State) came on in relief for the Dawgs to get the final out of the inning.

The Dawgs responded quickly in the bottom of the eighth. With runners on second and third and one out, Michael Danner (Polk State) lifted a sac fly to right field and the lead increased to two.

Waltermire continued his relief appearance in the ninth, taking the Freedom hitters down in order to close out the victory for Winter Park.

The pitching was stellar for both squads. Freedom starter Corben Madden (Jacksonville) went 7 1/3 innings, giving up just four runs on six hits. Aside from the rocky third inning, Madden was close to unhittable for the rest of the game.

Ben Brown (St. College of Florida) was just as effective, shutting down the Freedom completely during his seven innings of work en route to his second victory of the year. Brown allowed just three hits and no runs.

The Freedom will return to Orel Hershiser Field Thursday (June 23) for their first contest at home in over a week. The contest features the visiting Sanford River Rats as Orlando looks to grab its third win of the week. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
