Mike McClendon, former pitcher for the Winter Haven Warthogs as well as the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs, has been called up from the Triple-A Nashville Sounds to pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers. McClendon was drafted in the 10th round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. In his fifth season playing for the Brewers, he will get his first crack at the Big Leagues.
McClendon becomes the 2nd Florida League player to make it to the Major Leagues coincidentally joining the 1st Florida League player to be called up earlier this summer, Brewers teammate Jon Lucroy. McClendon will serve as a Relief Pitcher potentially partnering with Lucroy (catcher) as the Brewers battery.
Named a Pacific Coast League All-Star, McClendon looks to continue his fine season at the next level. He brings a 2.06 ERA with 59 strikeouts and only 1 homerun surrendered in 70 innings pitched.
The Florida League would like to congratulate Mike and his family on this accomplishment and wish him well.
